Luau Party and Baptism!
As the dog days of summer begin to take a backseat to another new school year getting underway, things are beginning to gear back up here at SCC, too. To kick it all off, we’re planning a huge Back to School Party, Baptism and Luau! (How’s that for a party title?) With a name like that, there’s a lot to live up to, so we’re pulling out all the stops. There’ll be fun activities for kids of all ages, including the grown-up ones, all the way from our usual bounce houses to a limbo line. And you can be sure to find some finger-licking luau fare to satisfy your hungry appetite. This is the perfect opportunity to recapture the last bit of summer while enjoying time with your family and maybe even meeting and mingling with some new friends. So don your favorite Hawaiian shirt, flip flops and flowery lei, then hula your way to the festivities on Sunday, September 13 at 5pm.

Financial Peace University
Back by popular demand this fall, we are again offering the Financial Peace University (FPU) course by Dave Ramsey. With so much in the headlines about the economy these days, confusion and fear are running rampant, but that doesn’t have to be you. You can, in fact, have peace by learning how to navigate through these uncertain times. In this video-driven class, Dave Ramsey teaches sound, timeless principles about how to manage your personal finances successfully that will leave you encouraged and hopeful. Orientation for this course is Sunday morning, September 6th between the two services at 10am with classes held weekly starting the following Tuesday, September 8 at 6:30pm.

Starting Point
Yet another great opportunity is making the circuit at Seminole again this fall with Starting Point. This is one of our most unique and informative groups in which to participate, because it provides a setting where you can comfortably ask all of your questions, even the really hard ones, and get some real answers. These discussion-oriented get-togethers (10 weeks in a row) are fitting for those who are relatively new to their faith or for those who are just inquisitive and are seeking a clearer understanding of what the Christian faith is all about. There will be an orientation for Starting Point on Sunday, September 13 at 10am between services, and then the group meetings will begin the very next Sunday during the first service at 9am.

Something for Everyone
It would appear that there’s something new for just about everyone in the next few weeks. The high school and middle school students have already started their regular youth group meetings every Tuesday and Wednesday night again, but they’re taking it up a notch on Friday, September 11, by storming Rock the Universe.
As for the grown up people, the gals have a chance to connect each week at the Ladies’ Bible Study as they delve into the book of Esther. That study gets underway on Thursday mornings, September 17.
The guys, it seems, have a lot of food to eat together with a Men’s Breakfast on Saturday morning, September 5 and Men’s Monday Night Football kicking off on September 21.
And for all ages, First Wednesday Communion Services are back on the calendar.

Twisted, New Sermon Series
Lastly, a brand new sermon series, “Twisted,” is coming your way on Sunday mornings, September 13. There’s been a lot of “talk” lately – on TV, in print – and it can be really hard to distinguish between what’s really true and what’s not. But the struggle to discern between truth and lies isn’t a new phenomenon; truth twisting has been going on for years…centuries…millennia, in fact. If you could draw back the curtains for a moment and see behind the scenes, you might notice that things aren’t always what they seem, and that each distortion has the potential to destroy your relationships, cloud your decisions, and destroy your perspective of God. These messages will offer an undercover look at how the truth has been twisted, and how that impacts your life in very real ways.

God Bless,

Pastor Jerry
